Peter Gomm - Chief Executive Officer/Director

Peter joined Mainzeal in 2007. He brings many years of significant experience at the general management level in the construction industry, coupled with the bottom line responsibility of the delivery of many major construction projects in New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the UK.

Peter is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, was a Foundation Member of the New Zealand Institute of Building, and has an MBA from the University of Western Australia.

Reegan Pearce - Chief Financial Officer

Since joining the Richina Group in 1996, Reegan has held several financial management roles. He commenced his current role as CFO for the Mainzeal Property and Construction group in early 2006. Prior to this he held the role of Group Financial Controller for Richina Pacific.

Before joining Richina, Reegan was the Group Accountant for the more than 130 General Accident insurance company offices in the Asia Pacific region, having earlier held a number of treasury and corporate accounting roles in the Pacific regional headquarters of the General Accident.

Paul O'Brien - National Commercial Manager

Paul joined Mainzeal in 2010 and brings over 20 years of construction industry commercial, contractual and dispute management experience to the business. He has been involved in many major and significant projects during his career both in New Zealand and the UK.

Paul is a Registered Quantity Surveyor, a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors, a Member of the Quantity Surveyors’ Institute and an Associate of both the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He holds an Honours Degree in Law from the Open University and a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Auckland.

Warren Chapman - National Business Development Manager

Warren has had significant experience in Project and Construction management and was appointed as the National Manager for Special Projects in 2002.

Having joined Mainzeal in 1978 Warren has been involved in the procurement and delivery of many large and complex projects in the Wellington, Taranaki, Auckland and Northland regions as well as pioneering the Collaborative Working approach to several major projects nationally for Mainzeal. Warren is an active member of the New Zealand Institute of Building, participating on its executive at both national and regional levels.

John Pengelly - General Manager Project Definition

John has over 22 years construction experience with detailed workings in design management, site and services supervision, contract financial management, quality assurance and programming. John has been a Project Manager for Mainzeal for the last 10 years successfully delivering many of Wellingtons larger projects. In 2001 John won the NZIOB award in Excellence, and in 2009 won the NZIOB highly commended award for the Vogel Centre. He is a strong advocate of driving value into projects and fostering a collaborative working environment of problem solving. John is a qualified draughtsman, holds a Graduate Certificate in Building Management and is a member of the NZIOB.

Dave O'Donovan - Executive General Manager Construction

Dave was appointed Executive General Manager Construction in July 2011. Previous roles within Mainzeal have included General Manager Central Region, Construction Divisional Manager, Project Manager and Site Manager. Dave joined Mainzeal in 1993 as a Project Engineer on the $120m Parliament Buildings Refurbishment project and prior to that he had worked in construction in the UK, NZ and Australia. Dave is a professional engineer and is a member of NZIOB and MIPENZ.

Area Managers


John Hemi - Manager Auckland

John brings many years of construction industry experience to his appointment as interim manager of Mainzeal's Auckland operation. He commenced his career with Mainzeal in 1994 and has held the positions of Construction Manager and Project Manager. His proven track record of complex project delivery enables him to lead his team with a complete understanding of all aspects of the build process.

John has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).

Finlay Irwin - Manager Waikato / Bay of Plenty

Finlay was appointed Manager Waikato/Bay of Plenty in July 2008. Prior to this he was the Commercial Manager for Waikato/Bay of Plenty. Finlay has been with Mainzeal for over 21 years and is an experienced Project and Financial Manager.

Finlay is a member of NZIOB.

The main office of the Waikato/ Bay of Plenty branch is located in Hamilton and they have a satellite office in Tauranga.

Greg McFetridge - General Manager Central Region

Greg was appointed General Manager Central Region in August 2011. He has been a valued member of the Mainzeal team since 1992 and previous roles within Mainzeal have included Construction Divisional Manager, Branch Engineer and Project Manager. Greg has extensive experience in project managing, engineering and design management.

Greg is a professional engineer, MIPENZ CP Eng (Structural), IntPE GDBM.

Paul Blackler - General Manager Southern Region

Paul joined Mainzeal in 2008, with 27 years' experience in the construction industry, including 12 in senior management roles. This combined with a trade background Paul fully understands and welcomes the complexities and challenges that construction brings.

Paul has served on the Boards of Canterbury Registered Master Builders and Site Safe NZ. He is the chairman of the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology Trades Innovation Institute Advisory Board, Deputy Chairman of the Building Practitioners Board and is a member of the NZ Institute of Building.

Darren Mason - General Manager Infrastructure

Darren was appointed Mainzeal’s General Manager Infrastructure in 2010, having previously been Area Manager for Central Region. Prior to that he held Mainzeal roles as Commercial Manager, Project Manager and Senior Quantity Surveyor. Darren worked extensively in the UK before moving to New Zealand in 1995. He is a qualified quantity surveyor and cost engineer and also has a postgraduate Certificate in Construction Law and Administration.

Sam Rogers - General Manager Facilities Management

Sam heads up Mainzeal’s Facilities Management division, which was launched in 2010. He had joined the Mainzeal team in 2002 as a Building Services Engineer and worked on a number of projects in the health, commercial and industrial sectors. Sam has extensive experience in building maintenance and facilities management both internationally and within New Zealand.

Paul Stewart - General Manager Project Services 

Paul brings over 35 years of construction industry experience. He commenced his career with Mainzeal in 1988 and three years later was appointed an Area Manager. He opened a new Central Region office in Palmerston North, which grew very successfully, and further branch offices followed. Paul then managed Mainzeal’s Waikato/Bay of Plenty Area before becoming the General Manager Northern Region in 2008. He is based in the Auckland office.

Paul’s background includes Engineering and Construction Management.

  Noel Horan - General Manager Mainzeal Living

Noel was appointed Mainzeal's General Manager Mainzeal Living in 2011 and tasked with the challenge of developing Mainzeal's new residential business unit. Prior to joining Mainzeal he was CEO for Natural Resources Management Ltd and also held various roles in Fletcher Building business units culminating in a development manager role at Fletcher Residential within the Stonefields development team. Noel has a Masters Degree in Engineering Management and a post-graduate Diploma in Business in Operations Management, as well as bachelors degrees in Architecture and Building Science.

Paul Uttley - National Safety and Environmental Manager

Paul was appointed as Mainzeal’s National Safety and Environmental Manager in 2011. He originally joined Mainzeal in 2004 to oversee the health and safety management on a number of the Auckland Area’s key sites and was later promoted to the position of Northern Regional Safety Manager.   Paul has over 28 years' experience in the construction industry, working on projects throughout New Zealand, Australia and the UK. He brings expertise from a number of tiers within the industry as his career includes time as a builder, a local body Environmental Health Officer, and the Safety Officer for a number of construction companies.

Liz Root - Sustainability Manager

Liz joined Mainzeal's team in February 2011. Her most recent role has been with New Zealand Green Building Council where she has been Technical Manager since 2009.  Prior to that Liz held similar positions in the Australia and the United Kingdom.Liz offers local and international experience in Sustainable practices and Rating Tools working with stakeholders at all levels.

Brian Olsen - National Quality Manager

Brian has over 45 years' experience in the construction industry, working on projects throughout New Zealand. Brian joined Mainzeal in 1998 as the Auckland Quality Manager using his industry experience to further develop the company’s Quality Management Systems. In 1999 Brian was appointed to the role of National Quality and Safety Manager.

During his time with Mainzeal Brian has been instrumental in developing and driving safety programmes both within Mainzeal and throughout the construction industry in general. Brian is a Director and Board Member of Site Safe NZ Limited.
